Any way of making the forum viewable to visitors without them actually needing to register??

Just registered myself, but it would have been nice to have a wee peek to see what was on offer, without having to register first.

See that there are a few members with 0 posts, probably registered to have a look and not bothered posting.

Might help to get new people in.

Following on from Big Red's comment, I do have the option to open selected or all topics to visitors.

I did originally set the forum up this way but got a bit paranoid about bike thieves etc and closed them, not that by registering proves your not a bike thief Confused

So guys what do you want? I'll put it to the vote.

Im on the fence with this one, things like

" Where ya from, what's your bike history, what ya do?"

should be private as there are pics of bikes, No.Plates, where they are kept, garages and everything else our friendly bike thieves need to know.

They will all be sitting online browsing and taking note: counting the days until they are released from prison due to over-crowding and ready to go on the prowl. Am I paranoid or what?

Maybe the Maintenance section and links can sit open as they dont give too much info on members away.

god ive got the Malamutes sleeping next to the bike now

anyway the sun is shinning tonight, time to get out the leathers

(just back, had a wee spin oot intae perth along A85, cut off onto A822 at Gilmerton out to Dunkeld, A822 is a fine wee road, stopped in at Dunkeld then home) (thought id just re-edit this post since im back) Very Happy

Beautiful dog Roy, what breed is he/she. Smile

I agree with your comments regarding online security - as well as common sense there are also legal issues regarding data protection which falls not on individual members (after all they are posting on an open forum voluntarily) but by the forum organisors in making such data public. Sad

I think people should be able to browse the majority of subjects (security notwithstanding) but not read every post in a thread. Reason being is we have to be careful that we don't shoot ourselves in the foot regarding the forum.

To become a popular forum we need a regular subcription of members who are willing and interested enough to post. Cool

The ability to read everything on the forum without registering will allow members to do just this and encourage lurkers, a category of whom we have enough already Question

I voted for - Yes, let visitors see certain topics, please state which

I think it's good to let people see the general section, as this is where most of the banter goes on and helps them make a decision to register or not.

I have only just joined so don't shoot me down yet. Hardly read any posts yet. Wink

Well, thats my vote cast, and it is the "Yes, let visitors see certain topics, please state which"

The which part would be general, runs and technical.

feel these will be the parts of most use, and more likely to attract new members.

I have opened General to the public, they can read but not post.

I have however moved "Where you from, what ya do?" etc to a members only section.

Sounds good, keep info to a minimum for people who dont want to be known.
Think bike is well again and should be ok to collect in the morning, only casualty is my wallet.
Sounds about right Neutral
