Very, very interesting article I just read in 'Advanced Driving' realting to chavs in cars.
You know, this is the (largely) 16-19 age group with the stereotypical 'burberry' check baseball hat and the reclined seat in the Vauxhall Nova's with the 'wide mouthed' exhausts and the extra wide tyres.
Normally, you only ever see a pair of eyeballs peering over the top of the steering wheel.
Seems that they are the LEAST likely group to get speeding tickets despite being amongst the most dangerous drivers on the road (7 out of 10 fatalities involve young male drivers in this age group), reason being is that they've grown up with the technology used to detect speeding drivers and therefore know where all the speed cameras are located, use modern communications technology as second nature such as texting and the internet to warn each other of mobile speed traps and use radar detectors to locate laser devices.
Seems they 'integrate' much more readilly with modern information and communications technology than the rest of us and use it to 'select' areas that they can drive beyond the speed limits with the minimal chance of detection.
What we have here guys is a very 'cyber' smart generation who some might argue are 'outsmarting' an older entrenched enforcement capability less 'integrated' with new technologies.
It seems that they treat driving in very much the same way they treat a video game. It's all about 'outsmarting' the oppostion.
