I'm pretty much with you there F4I. Giving blood doesn't phase me at all.
My first time was done under 'orders' and involved a regular tab - sometimes twice a day down to Cambridge Military hospital in Aldershot, have done ever since. Having spent around 15 years in the emergency services it would have been hipocritical not too continue but these days I don't attend often enough so must give myself a reminder to give blood the next time the transfusion service is in the area.
Organ donations is another matter as you rightly say! It's a matter of trust. The illegal International black market in organs is huge and extremely lucrative for those who are involved - where does their intelligence come from?
Then there's theres Michael Crighton's alarming novel, screenplay and film 'Coma' in the late eighties.

Clearly a realist writer with a lot of experience in the medical profession (Jurrasic Park, ER etc.). Sure, entertainment but leaves you wondering where fiction ends and facts start!
Who can forget the Alderhey scandel to boot?
