I had a chat with Coppertop about this. I know there is some interest from some members of PBF in doing it. Smile

Coppertop would be happy to arrange a day for PBF. I'd be happy to go. Smile

Rach, fancy arranging something. Question

I would certainly be interested but would prefer it if someone else could organise it, got a lot on my plate at the moment. Sad

No worries maddog, I'll contact Coppertop and ask her to post something. Very Happy

I know anyone living in Perth & Kinross gets 50% of the course fees paid for them by P&KDC

As far as I understand it the course can be tailer made to deal with specific concerns but a lot of it involves cornering on rural roads which means it's a good day out on some superb roads. Very Happy

I'll ask also for a group discount.

Might also be a good opportunity for a little PR for PBF, what do you think Rach? Question

Application forms are available for download at:

These are applicable to residents of P&KDC only (to apply for 50% off course fee's).

If everyone who is interested in taking part could download and print off the form, fill it in and pop it in the post to me (just PM me for details), I'll hand them all in to Coppertop or Chamelion. Very Happy

We can arrange dates later.

For anyone thinking about Bike Plus. Don't be put off by the name. It's not on the same level as Pass Plus that car drivers do after passing their test. 8-)

It is tailor made to the rider and really serves as a superb introduction to advanced riding. It provides a real opportunity to work on specific skills such as cornering etc. Most of it takes place on rural roads so everyone is guaranteed a superb ride out.

Just looking at the application form, it states that it is geared toward new riders and must be appiled for within 1 year of passing the test!

Although I can see the point in this, the training would benefit most riders and the fact that someone has passed their test over 1 year ago doesn't mean that they are more experienced than a new rider.
My wife passed her test 10 years ago and has never been on a bike since Shocked Now she has a bike and wants to get going, she is just like a new rider so it would be a real shame if riders like this couldn't take part in what should be, an excellent opportunity.

Any views?

I had a discussion with Dougie at GMTS (chameleon) earlier this year and they have since changed the rules and it is open to everyone now.

I had a bad off last year and my confidence has plummeted so am hoping this course will give me a boost.

Yes, Rach is right Buck. They've opened this up a great deal. GMTS get a lot of referrals from the candidates completing the Police Bike Safe program. Very Happy

It's tailored to the level of the participants. A lot of people are being drawn towards this now because it involves advanced riding coaching but without the intensity required for passing an advanced test, plus the milage necessary to complete something like IAM, ROSPA, Blue Ribband or similar schemes. Plus of course, theres no pressure of an assessment. Very Happy

A lot of rider training centres working with the Police Bike safe campaign have dropped the Bike Plus title and re-packaged this as advanced rider training, especially in the bigger cities such as Glasgow. See:

Very Happy Many completing the scheme go onto to prefect the techniques learned and go onto complete a recognised advanced rider qualification. Smile

Bike Plus is really much more of a personal coaching award. 8-)

Spoke with Chamelion during the week, he said he'd try to post something up first opportunity he got.

Max ratio is 1:2 i.e. one instructor to two trainees.

Anyone else interested Question

I've decided after this week-end that i'm now going to run a boating school.

Once Summer returns then we could get back to bikes !!

The Bike Plus was initially aimed at new riders but after a year , Perth & Kinross took the brave (and to be fair - enlightened ) view that it could be set up to include all riders in the PKC area.
Bike Plus is now a rider improvement day which can be from just passed your test to Born again or a days advanced tuition - your call.
From the company point of view this makes life much harder so booking is essential especially at this time of year.
Look at it this way - how often do you get money back from the council .
Note this is NOT council tax money - it's from the Scottish Exec.which is to used to improve road saftey.

Make it a Jet Ski school Chamelion and you've got my attention.

C'mon then guys, who fancies a day's advanced riding tuiton before summer finally fades Question For those of you living in P&K it's a bargain at £55 - approximately the same cost as a two hour lesson! Smile
