Just thought I would start this thread to get peoples opinions on there bike helmets past and present and what tyres they prefer on there bike

Tyres:- I have Pirelli Diablo Corsa's which I find pretty good and work well with the bike

Helmets: I use a AGV - XR2 (had to match bike colours too)

also a Shoei and Shark cant really say how good any helmet is until it is tested!!

I bought a centurian helmet brand new for £20 back in the 80's and hit a car side on when it pulled out in front of me, was doing roughly the ton at the time and landed 20 yards up the road, the helmet was well scrapped and banged up but sure done its job.

So is it worth spending £200 - £400 on a helmet for safety reasons or is that cash just to ensure you get the latest replica up-to-date model?

ive got the same opinion as you as far as helmet value concerned, ive got a cheap shark at mo,only thinking of getting something new for draft proofin and noise prevention but wont be spending a fortune.i think the race replicas seem to be a bit of a rip.race replica leathers have been accused of not being as good as the real pro gear.so are you just paying to keep up with the fashion?

My current helmet is a Nitro and cost £35 at Kelso last year, its seems fine Gold A standard etc wind noise and drafts can be a problem though.

My last helmet was Shark and cost over £130 and was great and did it's job when I came off.

I do prefer the D ring fastening to the seat belt style however.

This is quite interesting as i am new to all this and just wondered what was the main differences between the helmets as there are a big difference in price.

Always use a front flip purely for ease of removal 'just in case'. Very Happy

Saw a shocking picture of an accident where the front flip came open during the impact, it has always put me off Sad

Make sure they're race approved Rach and you should have no worries in that direction.

a lot has to do with cosmetics, fancy paint jobs and latest replica, a £100 helmet is going to protect your head as good as a £500 starwars, some even fit better

as long as your helmit properly fits your head and most important it feels "good" on you its going to be alright, not much point going out on a run with a helmet that doesnt feel right, its gonna be on your mind all day.

spend £500 on a helmet then ooops youve dropped it, do you replace it? I think not

cut/paste from the website

PARIS, June 15 (Reuters) - French tyre group Michelin (MICP.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Friday it was recalling some 68,000 motorbike tyres after finding a possible defect in their tread due to a manufacturing fault.

The company said it would recall the Pilot Power 2CT and Pilot Power 120/70 ZR 17 front motorcycle tyres. A Michelin spokeswoman said the recall would affect tyres sold in 40 countries in north America and Europe.

Michelin added no accidents had occured as a result of the fault.
