Coming back in the Arbroath Rd tonight after my second IAM observed ride and apexing a left hand bend just outside Forfar to get back home and I noticed a group of sports bikes coming the other way. Shocked

I was sitting close to the white lines to make the left hander and the lead sports bike and his mate taking a right hander were taking very fast racing lines which put them about a foot on my side of the white lines! Shocked

The lead guy adjusted his position reasonably easilly as I adjusted mine to take a safety position but his wing man struggled visibly to correct his line. Could have been nasty! Sad

I held in tight to my safey position until the swarm of bikes had passed all three or four groups of them.

Thing was, during my ride tonight I came across two horse riders, a low flying pheasant and a red deer as I took bends - and none of these were at these sort of speeds. Idea

a Red deer !!!

I have a nice 7.62 I could have gave it as a pressy

taking a high risk choosing a line that involves the other side of road unless you can plainly see miles ahead that their aint anything on the road, sounds like there is an accident waiting to happen Laughing Laughing Laughing

get the camera ready

you never see horse riders picking up sh*t, imagine sliding down the road because you lost the front end sliding in sh*t lol
you'd really be in the sh*t then

guess horse riders are too posh to pick up their own sh*t, ah say cut the baffles out yir exhaust and drop a couple of gears every time you go past them Evil or Very Mad

am I going off subject?

Given the speed, trajectory and difficulty of aim - possibly better sticking to a 12G shotgun with a short barrel and a wide choke - loaded with something like SG - that way I'm sure to hit something and possibly mutliple targets. Cool

Good point about the horse s**t Roy - something I had never considered until you mentioned it and something to keep in mind. I did come over the brow of a hill last night and sitting there right in the middle of the road was a nice pile of freshly cut grass - probably about a foot and a half high (forgive my use of imperial measureemnts - my metric's not what it should be!) arranged in a nice pyramid type shape - possible fell of a bogie! Confused

I cut my speed right down when passing horses just in case I alarm them - the low growl from the GS is particularly intimidating and last night Stewart was following up with an 1150. Confused

I read an interesting article recently about 'freak accidents' in a 'Reader's Digest' I found in a hosptial waiting room. Talked about deer strikes etc. (50,000 deer strikes are recorded per year). Seems the vast majority of riders (and drivers) ignore obvious rural signs (such as you mentioned about the horse s**t). These guys last night were a clear example I guess. Sad

Incidentally, does anyone on the forum know how to convert paperbased material into .PDF files Question

Does anyone think a files section on the forum would be a good idea for uploading documents (such as the Readers Digest article) Question

Unfortunatly many treat the road like a race track and then seem shocked when they fall off/ get injured/loose licence/P**s off the general public who then vote to have bikes banned or restricted / kill people- which myopic planet are these people on ------- ( OK i know the answer to that question!)

You can train as much as you want but until the selfish attitutude deminishes - nothing will change

Sorry this maybe should be in the whinging section

All you can do is when you ride your own bike is never commit to any road position or speed that doesn't have an escape route for you AND the potential plonker (other names might be more appropriate) who might be coming the other way
