He is an Aussie so expect they came from that part of the globe.

Lindsay

did you get my pm, sorry i couldnt help any further.

Here is a site you may wish to check out:

killboy.com

never mind route 66, get a flight across, hire a bike and "ride the dragon"

the roads are increadable and surfaces like race track, love or hate the Americans they sure know how to do things in style.

150 miles of twisting roads. also try the black hills of south dakota same thing there.

check some pics in killboy.com

hope you enjoy them as much as I do

Thanks Roy, I appreciate it.

I'll check out the links and investigate further. Cool

There's loads of clips on YouTube about motorcylists coming to grief 'Riding the Dragon' but it would definately be something to add to your US portfolio. Route 66 though, which apparently hasn't officially existed from as far back as the 50's is still one of the most sought after US touring routes and definately also has to be high on any US portfolio. Would have to be done on a Harley or an Orange County Chopper though for credibility. Cool

I can just hear 'Born to be Wild' starting up in the background as I reply this post. Laughing

The route it traces across the midwest really would be superb.

I have to say I admire your ability with a spanner - I honestly don't know one end of a screwdriver from another. I enrolled on a basic motorcycle maintenance course at Cumbernauld College last year but the course didn't go ahead because the guy's business they brought in to run it was sold or folded or something. Sad

Weve done a good part of route 66 in a 4x4 chevy blazer, most of it runs along side the I40 so its pretty quiete, scenery is stunning, few parts of the road are closed but the majority is still open. The government aims to have it up and running again with roads all repaired for tourism.

You meet a lot of strange people along the way, we went into one bar/saloon for food and found a queue of rednecks standing in a line (about 8 - 10) waiting to play a "cuddly toy" machine where the arm goes over and drops to try and pick the toy up. these guys aged between 20 and 60, all looked interbred and very dodgy. rolled our sleeves down right away to hide our watches, ate the food and made a sharp exit.

I agree doing the route on a bike would be good but there would need to be a few to cover each others backs.

since it was just me and the wife, we found the 4x4 a safe bet.

I swear I could hear 'Dueling Banjos' when I read that Roy. Images of 'Southern Comfort' and 'the Texas Chain Saw Massacre' came flooding to mind and of course 'Deliverance'.

Some of the guys I know who have done Route 66 on bikes have had the odd bit of trouble from US motorcycle gangs though.

Hopefully, if they are opening it up for tourism the'll sort this out in the longer term. Cool
