.

The legendary Black Prince. 35 kilometers round Paris in traffic in 11.04 minutes. I heard the second time he tried it...he died.

This is probably going to be unpopular, but I think riders like ghostrider and blackprick (deliberate spelling error) give bikers a bad name. They're antics may get some teenager drooling over his Ducati pic excited but riding at top speed through busy traffic can only lead to the inevitable result and the sad thing is there are plenty of impresionable riders out there who will happily copy what these pricks do.

The fewer of these idiots on the road the better. Pissed off

I did not post this because I think it is a good thing to try, I posted it for the shock factor. I first saw the video about three years ago and was gobsmacked, how anyone can think this is sustainable is beyond me, he's traveling at over 150mph on many of the stretches in busy traffic, and if you look carefully he nearly comes a cropper half a dozen times.

What we are looking at here is a rare animal, there are not legions of young impresionable riders out there desperate to try this out.

This is no video game, there is no reset button, to attempt something like this only says you likely have mental issues.

If it has an up side at all, at least you can get to see what it would be like, and no doubt come to the same conclusion as I did...put that idea back in the cupboard.

Watching the Black Prince and Ghost Rider clips: I wouldn’t do it because I couldn’t do it. Give riders a bad name? We’ve already got one, but only amongst people whose opinion we should not value anyway. The young and impressionable? They’ve always been there: an RD350 through a milk van in Rannoch Road springs to mind, guy was doing about 90. Must have been about ’79 or ’80 – whenever RD350s were brand new anyway. Survived with a lot of fractures and some years later he tried his hand on the racetrack but wasn’t very good. The point is we’ve all seen guys like Kev Carmichael and the Bold Dogs and we know what can be done in the appropriate setting. Having had the absolute shit scared out of me in the Isle of Man being passed by guys doing easily 150 (legally) I really do believe we need to keep this stuff on the track. But, in some secret little corner of my mind, something tells me that I’m sort of glad there’s loonies out there. That makes me irresponsible, I know, and reprehensible too. But the main objection is the risk to the innocent: chances are that on the peripherique you won’t kill anybody else, but it’s still not on.

In the end I’d rather see John McGuinness doing a 130mph lap in the Island, or watch Bruce Birnie winning the SACU Sports Production Championship.

Ping! I’ve just had an idea! (slow down old boy, or you might have another . . .) Next year, I’d like to see if we can’t get some on-bike footage from some Knockhill track nights and put that up on u-tube. D’you think it’ll catch on?

So here are my thoughts for what they are worth. Facinating to watch...but omg these guys are going to die. People die on the race track doing these speeds on prepped bikes with racing thingy bits all over. So a biker on the peripherique IS going to cop it...last time I was on the Perph I wished I was in a chieftan tank.

Bikers allready have a bad image...just ignorance that. The number of people I meet in my job who are bikers is amazing....regular people like us who are no more loonies that me (set myself up there I guess)

Impressionable kids....you bet. A two year old will copy just about anything you do....whats more watching something on TV makes people do it. Thats what advertising is based on....if you dont think advertising works...name ten beers and then ten primeministers of the UK...which was easier?????

These guys live at their edge...we all have an edge just not in the same place....

Would I do it? No.
Would I watch it? Yes.
Am I impressed:No
Am I amazed:Yes
Am I moved to do something about it: No

Now we all worry about maybe events....maybe he/she would kill people if he came off...its not a fact its a MAYBE....

Now how about this

If a jumbo jet crashed into a mountain killing everyone on board, and if that happened every month, month in month out, the number of people killed still wouldn't equal the number of women murdered by their husbands and boyfriends each year in America. FACT

Shouldn't we get concerned about FACTS not MAYBEs

Did any of that make sense...it is friday night!!!!

im kinda with you on that DrDr,my problem with it is this,it is kinda asperational, but it shouldent be.this was never sustainable.he was never goin to live long but that doesent give him the right to take out innocent
by standers.lots of racers have been, brave or skilled or both, and some have died,or been maimed, and some have wone the accolades for it,thats there choice, but its different on the track.they know the risks.UTUBE has some answering to do,
cheers bt...

I agree with drdr. But, BT, I'm not sure that u-tube has to do any answering. This leads us in to the hoary old arguments about what is and is not acceptable. Where do you draw the line? Is it at things that are illegal? Or life threatening? Or both? Is it possible that someone might want to try the Jamie Whitham R1 test for real and make Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman" a reality? The thing is, we all want to be treated as grown-up people who can make informed decisions. We all oppose restrictive legislation and I can remember being against compulsory crash helmets, yet now I wouldn't dream of riding on the road without one. Seatbelts? A no-brainer. Speed limits on open roads? well now you're talking. So, no answers from u-tube, but maybe some questions for its contributors.
