Where have you been the last few nights R1, we've missed you

the lad's probably been busy Lindsay, it was lovely weather today, maybe getting ready to do the harvesting.
On a slightly different note: I heard on the news that they are having problems getting seasonal workers, i.e berry picking etc, there was one place down south that had to lay waste to a lot of soft fruit cos they didn't have the people. Maybe I am wrong but I sure they didn't used to have these problems in the old days, there always seemed to be loads of folk turn up tattie and berry picking.

aye maddog, seems that they are finding difficulty due to the immigration rule changes. The woman farmer did say that they put ads in the local papers and everything, couldn't get local folk to fill the gaps. Guess poor wages and it's back breaking work that.

I used to go berry picking in the school holidays to make extra cash when i was a wee lass......liked the buckets hated the punnets.

the kids now get too much pocket money so there is no incentive to go make their own.

Sorry Folks, been up at Cousin Micheals farm most of weekend, weve just had 6 new calves and no complications, all but 1 are suckling away and weve got the other started now, the first month is a pretty crucial time and the best way for them to fight infection is there mothers milk.


read the fruit bit but we dont do fruit, too many things could go wrong, wet session etc and as for the pickers there are many polls and other migrants but lots of hassle with paperwork, been told they tell so many lies its hard for farmers to process paperwork.
migrant workers are entitled to the same terms and conditions as us, so farmers must ensure, that they have appropriate policies in place and that health and safety rules and procedures are understood by all. We have heard that some even deliberatly injure themselves then put in huge claims.

I think its better to keep a family farm and help each other out, we found it works better that way, I can plough bill todds fields and then in return he does something for us, or a small fee

ive forgotten what everyone has said on here for me to answer and every time I try to go back and see, what ive written so far has been scrubbed and I have to start again, stating to tipe with 2 fingers now, using both my left and right pointing fingers, it gets easier

I could do the moderator job if you want, maybe invite some of my farm buddies round, old Tom has a bike (honda 250) which he rides in the summer, struggles to get his leg up and over, but then he doesnt have a computer so forget that

Give "old Tom" a shot of your computer, with all these farmers I can see the place becoming like a shot from "SOUTHERN COMFORT"
