Hi Lindsay,
yip bike safe went very well.
Weather was very nice.
2 riders to one Police rider.
He first checked out license and insurance, never bothered looking at the bike.
ran through the route that we were to take and explained that first one person would go front to get assesed, the police bike in the middle and the 2nd rider at the back.
The roads were out of dundee fairly quickly and the back roads up to Forfar. I had never been up that way before, but it was a good mix of quite bumpy twisty B road and open flowing A. The total time was about 2 hours and about 60 miles. I rode at the front first for about 15 miles I guess up towards Forfar, then we stopped had a break and police guy gave appraisal. Then the 2nd rider went at the front and we went up to Forfar and stopped again, he was appraised. We then started on the way back to Dundee with the police rider at the front doing a demo on positioning/riding.
once back at Dundee, the police rider explained positioning and highlights of the route back. We both fielded questions on different topics.
The guy was very friendly and didn't patronise or whine about bikers. He geniuinely enjoyed riding bikes and could quite easily have started on about plates, visors, can's and speeding, the usual topics we think the police normally whine on about. All he wanted to do was pass on tips on riding and awareness in the town and country roads.
He said they will post out a certificate.
I thought it was worthwhile, learned a thing or 2. The police rider was very smooth and certainly not slow. Not that I was looking at the boy's ass, but I never saw even half a cheek hanging off the bike even in spirited cornering.
Hopefully once a few more of you get on the rides, you will have maybe other opinions, I will look forward to that.
Rgds
John
