this is from another site so you may have seen it but good idea

HAS ANYONE HAD AN EMAIL LIKE THIS......DO YOU THINK IT WOULD DO ANY GOOD?
Subject: FW: Petrol Prices

See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it

We are hitting 95p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying £1 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

Now, don't whimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... .. THREE HUNDRED MILLIONPEOPLE!!!
Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso

Thanx

Hi maddog

Isn't the largest proportion of consumer costs related to petrol due to taxation Question

I'm sure the major oil corporations would be happy to promote reduce proces e.g. a large discount when filling up over a certain volume but it makes lille sense if over half the price per litre is payable in government taxation. Sad

Bring petrol down to 50p a litre and put cigarettes up to £15 a packet. That would do the trick for me.

your barking up the wrong tree maddog, its the government you should be targeting with the taxation.

and not just with taxation at the pumps, the government highly taxes the oil companies in the North Sea also for exploration, production and new block licences.

Shell/Esso have joint ventures and always have done in North Sea, the Brents etc:Shell/Esso although now the older platforms are being sold off to smaller companies.

The largest oil company world wide is Mobil/Exxon but you will find companies are pulling out of North Sea due to Brown's taxation.

Same oil companies supply the U.S. and you dont find the fuel costs high over there and they supply gallons not litres.

The Government always trys to shift the blame towards the oil companies who are at the same time getting highly taxed, makes sence they will in turn bump up the fuel costs and carry out exploration else where, and in time taking the wealth away from us.

Whether its asda, Tesco, shell, BP the forecourts are still usually supplied by BP Grangemouth

Lets face it, if you live in the U.K. you will always be hammered by tax

welcome to the Nanny State

. Cool

The greatest justification for taxes the government has ever had. Sad

Apparently, after the country was brought to it's knees by the last great national strike against fuel taxation Tony Blair lent heavy on GCHQ to ensure complete isolation of any cell necessary in the UK network to interupt the communications of any of the recognised organsers to prevent a protest on a similar scale ever being successful again. Cool

That Orwell dude really did know a thing or two when he wrote 'Animal Farm' and '1984'. Cool

as a lorry driver, ive a little bad news on this situ,i drive a vehicle that does a max 7.5mpg(you wont find a 44tonne artic that does more than 8)every night i put 180litres in the tank and day shift driver does much the same.not too hard to work out that at 95p a litre and 75% tax theres £256 in gordon browns pocket and thats off one lorry every day.then youve got the £3500 a year road tax.thats why there was a fuel protest.now any haulage company creating another protest will lose their operators licence.maybe thats why the government arent in a hurry to convert freight to rail.
